Abstract
The dimer Na[{O3S(C6H4)CH2C(CH2PPh2)(3)Ru}(2)(mu-Cl)(3)] . 3H(2)O has been synthesized by the reaction of the tripodal Ligand NaO3S(C6H4)CH2C(CH2PPh2) (3) with the ruthenium complex [RuCl2(DMSO)(4)]. The dimeric complex is an effective catalyst precursor for the liquid-biphase hydrogenation of the do uble bond in various alkenes (l-hexene, 1-decene, allylbenzene, styrene) as well as the heteroaromatic ring in benzo[b]thiophene and quinoline. All th e metal remains in the polar phase at the end of the catalytic reactions. ( C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
