Abstract
This paper presents a brief review on recent advances in gas turbine t echnology and various means for reduction in specific fuel consumption . An intercooled recuperative combined cycle, with closed-loop steam c ooling breaks the 60% barrier in thermal efficiency. An innovative che mical gas turbine is in development to achieve a thermal efficiency of over 60%. Various means for reduction in specific fuel consumption ar e discussed.
