Abstract
Acute cholecystitis in the neonate is rare and usually treated by cholecyst ectomy. A 1-day-old full-term girl had clinical and sonographic features of acute calculous cholecystitis. This was successfully managed nonoperativel y with intravenous fluids and antibiotics, leading to complete resolution o f the condition. The infant currently is thriving and asymptomatic with a s onographically normal biliary tree. Spontaneous resolution of cholelithiasi s may occur in neonates, even in the presence of acute cholecystitis. J Ped iatr Surg 34:1029-1030. Copyright (C) 1999 by W.B. Saunders Company.
