The magnetic Compton profile (MCP) for ordered Fe72Pt28 has been measured a
t T = 305 and 490 K. The shape of the MCPs are compared to one obtained fro
m first principles band-structure calculations for the ferromagnetic ground
state. The theoretical analysis includes a decomposition of the various or
bital and atomic contributions. The experiments indicate a discernible chan
ge in the shape of the MCP with increasing temperature, and possible implic
ations for the observed change in shape are discussed.
