Several new polyelectrolytes with regular structure are introduced: block c
opolymers containing poly(ethylene glycol) and cationic polysoap blocks, am
phiphilic block copolymers containing cationic and strong hydrophobic block
s, and polycarboxybetaines with narrow molecular weight distribution. Deter
mination of the molecular weight of the polycarboxybetaines could be perfor
med by SEC. As revealed by viscometry and potentiometric titration, the sol
ution properties of the polyzwitterions depend to a high extent on the ster
ic hindrance of the N+ moiety. Viscometry as well as measurement: of the mi
celle polarity and of the solubilization capacity proved both intra- and in
termolecular aggregation to take place with the polysoap block copolymers,
investigations of the micellization of the block copolymers containing stro
ng hydrophobic blocks were followed by application of these polymers as sta
bilizers in the emulsion polymerization.
