Abstract
Incidence of pancreas diseases has grown during the last years. In wes tern industrial countries the number of cases of acute pancreatitis is expected to increase by 10 per 100 000 inhabitants and year. Chronic pancreatitis is detected in 0.3 to 5 % of post-mortem examinations. Tr eatment of the two forms has changed considerably in the last years. I ntensive care including liquid and nutrient balancing have improved th e prognosis of acute pancreatitis. As alcohol is an essential causativ e factor in the genesis of both pancreatitis forms, alcohol abstinence is necessary. Diets for both acute and chronic pancreatitis are prese nted.
