The Pierre Auger project: An observatory for the highest energy cosmic rays

Recent data from the Akeno [1] Giant Air Shower Array seem to statistically support the idea that the Cosmic Ray spectrum does extend beyond the GZK l imit. The challenge is set for finding the mechanisms that produce these UH ECR as well as their origin and composition. The Pierre Anger Observatories will consist of two hybrid systems employing water Cherenkov tank arrays o verlooked by atmospheric fluorescence detectors covering the entire celesti al sphere.
