Abstract
An alternative approach to large-eddy simulation based on approximate decon volution (ADM) is developed. The main ingredient is an approximation of the nonfiltered field by truncated series expansion of the inverse filter oper ator. A posteriori tests for decaying compressible isotropic turbulence sho w excellent agreement with direct numerical simulation. The computational o verhead of ADM is similar to that of a scale-similarity model and considera bly less than for dynamic models. (C) 1999 American Institute of Physics. [ S1070-6631(99)00707-2].
