Synthesis and characterization of Cp*MCpWFe(CO)(7) (mu(3)-S) (Cp*=C5H5, C5H4CH3; Cp=C5H5; M=W, Mo) and crystal structure of (eta(5)-C5H5)W(eta(5)-C5H4CH3)WFe(CO)(7)(mu(3)-S)

The reactions of CpWFeCo(CO)(7)(mu(3)-S) with Cp*M(CO)(3)Cl (Cp*=C5H5, C5H4
CH3; Cp=C5H5; M=W, Mo) gave the mixed-metal clusters (eta(5)-C5H5)W(eta(5)-
C5H5)MoFe(CO)(7)(mu(3)-S) (1), (eta(5)-C5H5)W(eta(5)-C5H5)WFe(CO)(7)(mu(3)-
S) (2), (eta(5)-C5H5)W(eta(5)-C5H4CH3) MoFe(CO)(7)(mu(3)-S) (3), (eta(5)-C5
H5)W(eta(5)-C5H4CH3)WFe(CO)(7)(mu(3)-S) (4). The title clusters have been c
haracterized by IR, H-1/C-13-NMR spectroscopy and their compositions have b
een confirmed by elemental analyses. The X-ray crystal structure of cluster
(4) was also reported. There are two independent cluster molecules (4) tha
t are enantiomers of each other in one crystal structure unit. (C) 1999 Els
