Abstract
Structural and functional neuroimaging for patients with substance-related disorders has had a dramatic impact on clinical medicine and research. This article reviews the findings of structural and functional neuroimaging stu dies related to alcohol and cocaine use and dependence. Issues relevant to clinical understanding and applications of neuroimaging are discussed, and current views of the underlying neurologic changes associated with acute an d long-term substance consumption are highlighted.
