Abstract
Existing theory for the analysis of the acoustic noise and vibration p roduced by single-phase induction motors is restricted to 2-pole machi nes (Yang, 1975). In this paper it is extended to cater for motors hav ing any number of poles, and is then used to analyse the noise and vib ration spectra of a typical 4-pole PSC motor and fan assembly. Both el ectromagnetically and aerodynamically generated noise and vibration ar e studied, with particular emphasis on the effects of rotor eccentrici ty, magnetic circuit saturation, and stator and rotor resonances.
