Theoretical predictions of impurity bound polaron effects on the second har
monic generation due to a resonant intersubband transition in rectangular q
uantum well wires are presented. The asymmetry of the quantum well wires du
e to the impurity accounts for the nonvanishing of the second-order suscept
ibilities. The formula for the second harmonic generation along the quantum
well wire is derived by the density matrix method. The numerical results a
re presented for a typical GaAs quantum well wire surrounded by Ga1-xAlxAs.
