Abstract
This is the first report of a fatal infection of beavers and bearcats with cowpox virus. Clinical, pathological and histological data are described. E lectron microscopical examination of specimens from lesions revealed pox vi rus particles. Cowpox virus was identified from the induction of haemorrhag ic pocks on chorioallantoic membrane, the presence of cytoplasmic inclusion A-type bodies and by PCR.
