Chemical sensors which apply chemiluminescence principles for the determina
tion of analytes in air and liquids are reviewed. Most of the literature re
viewed dates from the 1990s, and generally refers to environmental, pharmac
eutical, and clinical applications. The advantages and limitations of apply
ing chemiluminescence sensors to routine analysis are discussed. (C) 1999 E
