A total of 658 tissue samples from 110 greylag geese (Anser anser Linn
e, 1758) which were collected in the years 1994 and 1995 were examined
for the presence of viruses. No orthomyxo- and paramyxoviruses and ot
her embryolethal or cytopathogenic viruses were isolated (Tabl. 1, 2).
In addition, 13 sera and 5 egg-yolk samples were tested for antibodie
s against several viruses which may cause disease in geese. Haemagglut
ination inhibition and virus neutralisation tests were used. High anti
body titres against avian paramyxovirus-6 (aPMV-6) and low antibody ti
tres against aPMV-4 and aPMV-8 mere detected. The epidemiological aspe
cts and the significance of these antibodies are discussed (Tabl. 3).
