MgF2, which has a highly stable chemical structure, was observed to oxidize
, forming MgO when a 30 wt% Ag-MgF2 cermet was subjected to oxidation in a
low vacuum >100 Pa at a sintering temperature of 600 degrees C or above. To
avoid MgO formation the vacuum gas pressure needed to be below 10(-3) Pa.
