Abstract
To assess the performance of a noninvasive screening program for the detect ion of asymptomatic Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Chlamydia trachomatis infecti ons in men who have sex with men, a pilot program was conducted at two Bris bane city sex-on-premises venues and one recreational venue in late 1996 an d early 1997. During a one-week testing program, 148 men attending the thre e venues participated. First-catch urine specimens were collected on site a nd tested by either Amplicor polymerase chain reaction or the Abbott ligase chain reaction assay. None tested positive.
