I. Pavlovic et al., SORPTION OF AN ANIONIC SURFACTANT FROM WATER BY A CALCINED HYDROTALCITE-LIKE SORBENT, Fresenius environmental bulletin, 6(5-6), 1997, pp. 266-271
This work evaluates the sorption potential of an hydrotalcite compound
[Mg3Al(OH)(8)](2)CO3 . H2O, HT, and its calcined product Mg3AlO4(OH),
HT500, for sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate, DBS, in water. The results
obtained by spectrophotometric measurements show that the adsorption
of DBS in HT was low, while in the HT500 the amount of DBS removed fro
m water was very high, indicating its potential use as removal sorbent
. The H-type of the adsorption isotherms and the maximum sorption capa
city from Langmuir equation suggest the adsorption of anionic DBS spec
ies. X-ray diffraction patterns confirm that DBS adsorbs on HT500 by t
he reconstruction of the HT layered structure, suggesting the possible
recyclability of the calcined sorbent.
