Ak. Toham et Gg. Teugels, REDESCRIPTION OF 2 MORPHOLOGICALLY SIMILAR BRYCINUS SPECIES (OSTARIOPHYSI, CHARACIDAE) FROM CENTRAL-AFRICA, Copeia, (2), 1997, pp. 363-372
The taxonomic status of Brycinus kingsleyae and B. opisthotaenia, two
morphologically similar African characids, was studied. Specimens (n =
180) originating from the known geographical distribution range were
examined morphometrically. Principal component analysis was performed
on 17 metric and four meristic characters. A combination of some of th
ese characters and the color pattern clearly separate the putative spe
cies.
