Full-wave local field acting on a single particle in two-dimensional regula
r arrays of dipole scatterers is considered. Since the direct summation of
dipole fields in the lossless case is not possible (series do not converge)
, contributions from nearly located and distant particles are considered se
parately. The contribution from distant scatterers is evaluated analyticall
y, and that from near dipoles by direct summation. The sum of the two parts
gives a physically sound result. Results are compared with the known quasi
static and asymptotic theories. The method can be useful in modelling the r
eflection and absorption in extremely thin material layers of composite mat
erials.
