Abstract
Growth trajectories are ''infinite-dimensional'' traits: each individu al is described by a curve that represents an infinite number of measu rements. Recently developed methods allow genetic variation in infinit e-dimensional traits to be quantified. This framework is outlined, and illustrated with data on mice. Applications of the infinite-dimension al approach to problems such as sire evaluation and QTL mapping are su ggested.
