Abstract
The surface structure of (root 3 x root 3)R30 degrees I-Pd (111) has been i nvestigated by normal incidence X-ray standing wave absorption. The measure ments show that the site of adsorption is at the three-fold fee hollow, wit h a layer spacing of 2.16 Angstrom above the surface. The location of the I atoms at the fee hollow site is consistent with halogen adatom adsorption on the neighbouring fee (111) transition metal surfaces.
