Abstract
We analyze three different ways of obtaining a spin-free Dirac equation and demonstrate that the resulting spin-free Dirac equations have different ei genvalues and eigenvectors. This means that the conventional division betwe en scalar and spin-orbit relativistic effects is arbitrary and depends on t he method of separation. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V.
