The purpose of the investigation was to establish the accuracy of moire top
ography in the analysis of the kyphotic spine. Using simplified instrumenta
tion, moire topogram was performed in. the 50 outpatients at the Department
of Orthopaedic Surgery, School of Medicine, University of Zagreb. Lateral
x-ray and meticulous clinical measurements of the spine were included as we
ll. A correlation between, the obtained results was established. A high cor
relation (r = 0.847) was found between the results obtained by means of X-r
ays and those obtained by means of moire topography. The authors concluded
that the method is ideal for the determination of a morphotypology of the k
yphotic spine and can significantly contribute to the differentiation betwe
en. normal and pathological sagittal curvatures of the spine without the ne
ed for x-ray of the spine. The authors conclude that the application of moi
re topography in. the biomechanical laboratories can contribute to the new
cognition on kinematics of the spine. The investigation demonstrated that s
imple and nonexpensive apparatus can be used for the moire topography in th
e follow-up of the sagittal curvatures of the spine.
