A thermal protocol has allowed us to produce translucent O/W emulsions comp
osed of nanodroplets. By means of a static light scattering analysis, we sh
ow that the interaction potential existing between nanodroplets is practica
lly a hard sphere interaction potential. Dynamic light scattering measureme
nts bring us to study the steric effect induced by the surfactant molecules
which are adsorbed at the water/oil interface. We confirm that nanodroplet
dynamic coalescence rates are slowed down when the surfactant molecular we
ight is high. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
