Abstract
The conceptual issues and research findings surrounding the meaning an d use of reflection are examined in this paper and serve as a foundati on for discussing significant assumptions and beliefs regarding the us e of reflection in nursing education. The strengths and limitations of reflection are discussed. The paper links current knowledge about ref lection to the development of reflective thinking and its use by nurse educators and suggests strategies to enhance this development.
