Abstract
The Jersey Wildlife Preservation Trust (JWPT) has maintained comprehensive animal records since its inception in 1963. This paper lists longevity for 57 species from 25 families belonging to 11 different mammalian orders at J WPT, with comparative data on longevity records of animals maintained by ot her institutions. From the individual life histories reported, JWPT has doc umented 10 longevity records in eight families belonging to six different o rders. Zoo records ran provide major sources of valuable information and, i n the majority of cases, the collection of data on longevity is only feasib le in a captive setting. It is therefore hoped that the lifespans recorded in this paper will promote further research into zoo records and thereby he lp to stimulate the publication of additional comparative data documenting increased longevity records for mammalian species.
