A +/-500kV HVdc transmission line is currently being constructed jointly by
some electric power companies in Japan. Following construction of this ove
rhead transmission Line, the ability to work near a live line in a safe man
ner is one of the most important factors for system reliability. We conduct
ed a survey of work near a live line using the +/-250kV Hokkaido-Honshu HVd
c Link Line in July 1990 before this overhead transmission line was upgrade
d. As a result, we clarified various problems in the work conducted near a
Live line and suggested some countermeasures such as the grounding of strin
ging conductors at more than one point.
