Classical fault analysis methods for power systems are based on symmetrical
components to represent various fault configurations. The complete electri
cal network is decomposed using a complex transformation matrix into decoup
led zero, positive and negative sequence circuits. Faulted power system ste
ady-state voltages and currents are computed using a nodal analysis solutio
n method.
This paper presents an extension of the above methodology using discretized
RLC elements for the computation of the actual transient response of a net
work for various fault types. The decoupled networks are obtained using a r
eal transformation matrix.
