Macrocryst phlogopite and crystalline inclusions in it from the Mir ki
mberlite pipe have been studied. The inclusions consist of spinel, ilm
enite, garnet and diopside, with spinel found to be the most common in
clusion. Compositionally, the inclusions are close to minerals in ultr
abasic xenoliths. The relationship between the host mineral and the in
clusions and indications of chemical equilibrium may be an indirect ev
idence of their concurrent crystallization. The phlogopite is similar
in composition to primary and secondary micas from xenoliths. Its pres
ence in the kimberlite breccia is probably due to disaggregation of ma
nle xenoliths of magmatic and metasomatic origin.
