Chemical diffusivities measurements in liquids on the ground may be deeply
influenced by buoyant convection. We have studied the influence of the brak
ing effect of an uniform magnetic field on liquid metals. We have shown on
the Sn-SnIn1at% couple that it was thus possible to measure a diffusion coe
fficient equal to that obtained in microgravity. Moreover, the braking effe
ct of the magnetic field is found in agreement with theoretical predictions
