Abstract
This paper describes the anodic oxidation of various aliphatic alcohol s in pure water using Nafion(R) cation exchange membrane as solid poly mer electrolyte. The oxidation has been carried out on an IrO2 anode u nder conditions of simultaneous oxygen evolution. The experimental res ults for the anodic oxidation of four different alcohols are in good a greement with the theoretical model presented in a previous paper [8]. Finally a simple experimental method is described for the determinati on of the relative reactivity of organics oxidation on IrO2 anodes. (C ) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.
