Abstract
Redox active triarylamine-modified polymers have been synthesized by c opolymerization of diaryl-4-(1-trifluoromethylvinyl)aryl amines with e ither 4-vinylpyridine or styrene. In the case of 4-vinylpyridine, redo x active polyelectrolytes were generated by quaternization of the pyri dine-nitrogens with methyl iodide followed by an ion exchange. Thus, e lectrolyses can be performed without an added supporting electrolyte. Both types of polymers have been applied successfully for the indirect electrochemical oxidation of benzylic alcohol to benzaldehyde. (C) 19 97 Elsevier Science Ltd.
