Linear free energy correlations have played a major role in the development
of physical organic chemistry and have led to many of the now widely used
concepts of reactivity, This paper reviews the application of linear free e
nergy correlations to the field of gas-phase ion chemistry. The results ind
icate that many of the concepts developed to systematize liquid-phase prope
rties and reactivities are applicable to gas-phase ionic systems. Copyright
