A new copper deuteroporphyrin functionalized by two pyrrole groups has been
synthesized. This complex was isolated and characterized by H-1 NMR, UV-vi
sible spectroscopy, mass spectrometry and electrochemistry. This functional
ization has allowed the preparation of the first example of metallodeuterop
orphyrin film by oxidative electropolymerization. The redox properties of t
he resulting modified electrode have been investigated by cyclic voltammetr
y. The voltammograms display the regular electroactivity of copper deuterop
orphyrin as well as that related to the polypyrrole skeleton. Owing to its
cross-linked structure this polymeric film exhibits a relatively good elect
rochemical stability. In addition, it appears that the electropolymerizatio
n yield is markedly better than those previously reported for pyrrole-subst
ituted copper tetraphenylporphyrin. Preliminary experiments have demonstrat
ed the possibility to use this kind of electrode material in aqueous media.
