Abstract
Novel zinc hydroxystannate- or zinc stannate-coated hydrated fillers are sh own to be highly effective flame-retardant and smoke-suppressant additives for chlorinated polymers. The performance of these systems is discussed, wi th reference to PVC, polychloroprene, halogenated polyester resin and polyp ropylene formulations. Relative to unmodified magnesium hydroxide and alumi na trihydrate, coated variants of these fillers can achieve similar fire-re tardant properties at significantly lower additive levels.
