Abstract
The Java programming language has been projected as a universal language fo r the development of distributed applications. Unfortunately, the project o f such applications using Java is a complex task, requiring the author to b e a specialist in this language. This paper presents MUSE, a graphical envi ronment for the conception of interactive multimedia applications. The soph isticated user interface of this environment and its new high-level authori ng model allow the creation of complex applications in a fast and intuitive way. Due to the large expressiveness of the model, the author may create m ultimedia applications with logical and temporal inconsistencies. For this reason, the environment also allows the automatic generation of E-LOTOS spe cifications, which can be used to analyze and to verify the logical and tem poral restrictions defined by the author. After obtaining the complete and correct description of the multimedia application, the environment generate s the corresponding Java application.
