The CHORUS experiment has been designed to detect decays of tau leptons com
ing from v(mu) --> v(tau) neutrino oscillation using nuclear emulsion as pr
imary neutrino target. The ability for detecting decays of short-lived part
icles can be used to search for charm particles produced via deep inelastic
and diffractive neutrino interactions. Detection techniques and first obse
rvations of charm particle decays will be reported.
