Abstract
Induction of labor is an everyday obstetric practice. Frequently the cervix is unfavorable and preinduction cervical ripening is necessary. This artic le reviews the current knowledge about the physiology of cervical ripening and its assessment. Various methods available for cervical ripening includi ng their risks, benefits, and limitations are reviewed.
