Abstract
This article presents a discussion of fetal heart rate monitoring and its r ole in the laboring patient. Several origins of abnormal fetal heart rate p atterns are reviewed and examples are given. Management alternatives are al so presented and discussed. Fetal pulse oximetry is also briefly reviewed.
