In exudates from developing apple fruits GA(1), GA(3), GA(4), GA(7), GA(20)
and GA(34) could be identified and subsequently quantified by LC-ESI-MS se
lected-ion-monitoring analyses on the basis of internal standards. This is
the first evidence obtained by mass spectrometrical analysis which demonstr
ates export of endogenous GAs from the fruits during the period when flower
induction occurs. The observed differences in GA(4) export are discussed i
n connection with biennial bearing.
