Abstract
The genesis of the collagen structure proposed by the Madras Group is brief ly outlined. Recent crystal structure data on collagen-like peptides vindic ate (i) the original proposal of Ramachandran and Kartha, namely, that the structure of collagen is a triple helical coiled-coil one, and (ii) the vis ualisation of the maximisation of hydrogen bonds directly or indirectly wit h water molecules, including C-12-H...O hydrogen bonds.
