On-line supercalendering

A new calendering era dawned in December 1996. The first on-line calender b ased on the Janus Concept was successfully started up for calendering SC pa pers at the Lang paper mill in Germany. Right after the start-up. it could be stated thai thr target of supercalendered quality was fully met. Low por osity and high smoothness lead to distinctly better printability, with the result that gravure paper is now produced almost exclusively on the PM 4.
