Abstract
In this study, a new kind of Ti-TiC-C gradient biomaterial has been prepare d by means of plasma source ion implant-ion beam enhanced deposition (PSII- IBED). The experimental results showed that the involved components could b e controlled to distribute gradually along the depth through changing ion i mplantation and deposition conditions. As the result, the intrinsic stress and thermal stress would be remarkably relaxed, and the adhesive strength c ould be greatly increased. This gradient biomaterial made with PSII-IBED ca n meet the needs of artificial mechanical heart valves. (C) 1999 Elsevier S cience S.A. All rights reserved.
