In-beam gamma-ray and gamma-gamma coincidence measurements have been made f
or the very neutron deficient nucleus Hg-176 using the recoil-decay tagging
(RDT) technique. The irregular yrast sequence observed to I = 10 (h) over
bar indicates that the prolate intruder band, seen in heavier Hg isotopes n
ear the neutron midshell, is crossing the nearly spherical ground-state ban
d of Hg-176 above I = 6 (h) over bar.
