We demonstrate a new design for a light-scattering microscope that is conve
nient to use and that allows simultaneous imaging and light scattering. The
design is motivated by the growing use of thermal fluctuations to probe th
e viscoelastic properties of complex inhomogeneous environments. We demonst
rate measurements of an optically nonergodic sample, one of the most challe
nging light-scattering applications. (C) 1999 Optical Society of America.
