Abstract
We present a model for the generation of magnetic fields in fully convectiv e pre-main sequence stars. The dynamo process in this type of star is of al pha(2)-type and hence quite different from the solar dynamo. Based on a mea n field model of the turbulent electromotive force, the nonlinear induction equation is solved in three dimensions to allow for non-axisymmetric solut ions. The resulting magnetic held is purely non-axisymmetric and steady.
