Abstract
The Aptian ammonite biozones recognized in the Tunisian distinctive deposit ional palaeoenvironments are presented, characterized and correlated with t he ammonite zonal standard of Mediterranean area [Hoedemaeker er al., 1993] . The successive ammonite assemblages and their large geographic distribution in Aptian and Albian sediments mean the ingression of the Tethys on the no rthern continental margin of the African Craton. The tectonic events and cl imatic variations induced the basins and platforms evolution of this transe ct of the South-Tethyan palaeomargin.
