Does avulsion fracture of the finger extensor tendon really exist? Plastination histological studies on the insertion of the dorsal extension plate and its consequences for hand surgery
J. Hoch et al., Does avulsion fracture of the finger extensor tendon really exist? Plastination histological studies on the insertion of the dorsal extension plate and its consequences for hand surgery, CHIRURG, 70(6), 1999, pp. 705-712
With the help of thick, transparent finger cross sections, it was shown tha
t fibers of the extensor aponeurosis insert distal to the avulsed fragment
of the distal phalanx. The consequence for hand surgery is not to expose th
e fragment through a dorsal incision, but through a mid-lateral one. In thi
s way, the distant parts of the aponeurosis distal to the fracture remain i
ntact, and there is no break in the continuation of the dorsal extension pl
ate.
