This paper presents a new method for tuning the parameters of a conventiona
l power system stabilizer. The region of acceptable performance for the sta
bilizer has been extended and covers a wider range of operating and system
conditions, The parametric uncertainty in power systems has been handled us
ing quantitative feedback theory (QFT), The required controller parameters
are arrived at by solving an optimization problem that incorporates the con
trol specifications. The robustness of the feedback controller has been inv
estigated on a single machine infinite bus model and the results are shown
to be consistent with the expected performance of the stabilizer.
